Hekla is 1 491 m high and lies on the south Iceland. It have had at least 20 eruptions since 1104. The last eruption was 2000. If Hekla continues with its last standard of eruptions, we can wait a new eruption 2010!
One of the largest eruptions, 1947 threw about 7,3 cubic of volcanic rock into the atmosphare. One of Icelands mainlier scientists, Steinþór Sigurðsson, died when he was hited by a lavabloc.
The icelandic verb hekla means crochet. During the Viking time they used to crochet hoods of whiite wool. The name Hekla comes from that hekla is under a pernament blanket of snow that looks like a hood.
